The Service-Learning Cooperative provides opportunities for students to participate in worthwhile service-learning activities alongside students who attend Montgomery County Public Schools, mainly Blair High School. By participating, MC students can share knowledge of college to help younger students prepare for their futures while both groups of students serve the community.
Takoma Park Service- Learning Garden
Students from Montgomery College Takoma Park / Silver Spring, Blair High School and Takoma Park Middle School will be working together to create and maintain a community garden. This is an opportunity for all students to bring their own knowledge and skills to help this garden grow! We need people to help design the garden, build it, plant it, water it, weed it, and then harvest the vegetables. Much of the produce will be donated to the soup kitchen, Shepherd's Table.
We are planting the vegetables as seedlings in the Takoma Park Middle School greenhouse. Their horticulture club meets every Thursday after school to work on the project, and Montgomery College students are invited to help during that time. The meetings are from 2:50 - 4 p.m.
E-mail or call Danielle Alvarado if you are interested in any of the above opportunities: danielle.alvarado@montgomerycollege.edu, MCService.Learning@gmail.com or (240) 567-3892. Thank you!
