The Office of Student Life is supported by theories of development and experiential education espoused by Chickering, Kolb and others. Additionally, the Office refers to the Social Change Model of Leadership Development in its operations and in the framing of work agendas. As an Advisor, you should have knowledge of these concepts and of how they are applied to your work with student organizations.

The Office of Student Life anticipates learning outcomes for students in its programs. These outcomes are generally defined by student/advisor interaction. There are many possibilities but some examples of outcomes will be found at the learning outcomes link.

The Social Change Model is a framework to challenge and support students in their group and individual work within programs of the Office. Many of the choices you may encourage are what one might usually expect in advising a group, but this model stretches those expectations and clarifies the direction and anticipated learning outcomes.
